Have you taken a look under the hood of your vehicle lately?  You should do that at least once a week.

Of course check the oil, the transmission fluid, the coolant, the brake fluid, and the power steering fluid, but did you remember to look at the belt?

Most vehicles use serpentine belts.  It is flat on the back side and ribbed on the working side.  Take a look at those ribs as they run over a flat pulley.  Are there 3 cracks or more in a 3 inch space?  If so, then 80% of your belt life is used up.  It is time to change the belt.

Keep opening that hood and looking in the engine compartment.  Many times what you can see with your eyes will help you avoid a break down on the road.
